Attic insulation

Blown-in attic insulation

Fiberglass or cellulose blown over your attic floor to bring a thin attic up to full depth. It's usually the quickest way to make hot upstairs rooms more comfortable.

How it works

Full depth, even coverage

We blow loose-fill fiberglass or cellulose across your attic floor through a hose fed from a machine outside. It fills in around wiring, pipes and framing that batts can't cover cleanly.

If your existing insulation is dry and clean, the new insulation goes right on top. Before we blow, we set depth markers around the attic so you can check the coverage yourself, and we keep the eave vents clear so the attic can still breathe.

If we find big gaps around the attic hatch, plumbing or wiring, we'll point them out. Sealing those first makes the new insulation work harder.

R-49

ENERGY STAR's recommended insulation level for an uninsulated attic in climate zone 3, which includes North Texas. That's about 14 to 17 inches of blown-in insulation.

Your options

Fiberglass or cellulose

Both reach the same R-value when they're installed at the right depth. The difference is in what they're made of and how they behave over time.

Fiberglass

Made from
Spun glass fibers
R-value per inch
About R-2.2 to R-2.7
Settling over time
About 2 to 4%
Moisture
Doesn't absorb water
Good fit for
Top-offs and attics where you want a lighter material on the ceiling

Cellulose

Made from
Mostly recycled paper, treated for fire resistance
R-value per inch
About R-3.2 to R-3.8
Settling over time
About 10 to 20%, so it's installed deeper to allow for it
Moisture
Can absorb water, so roof leaks need fixing first
Good fit for
Packing tightly around framing, with fewer inches for the same R-value

FAQ

Questions about blown-in attic insulation

Don't see yours? Call (940) 245-6139 and ask us directly.

Can you blow new insulation over my old insulation?

Usually, yes. If the existing insulation is dry, clean and free of pests, we add on top of it. If it's wet, moldy or contaminated, we remove it first.

How much insulation do I need?

It depends on what's there now. ENERGY STAR recommends R-49 for an uninsulated attic in North Texas, which is about 14 to 17 inches of blown-in insulation. We measure your current depth and quote what it takes to get there.

How long does it take?

Most attics are done in a few hours. Your quote lists the schedule before you book.

Will it make a mess in the house?

The work happens in the attic. We protect the path from your door to the attic access and clean up when we're done.
