Roof deck and walls
Open cell or closed cell foam sprayed against the underside of your roof deck and into walls. It insulates and air seals in one step, and brings the attic and the ductwork in it inside your conditioned space.
How it works
Spray foam goes on as a liquid and expands to fill gaps, cracks and joints. Once it cures, it's an air barrier as well as insulation, which batts and loose fill can't do on their own.
In most North Texas homes, we spray the underside of the roof deck and the gable walls. That moves the insulation line from the attic floor up to the roofline, so the attic and your ductwork sit inside the conditioned space instead of in a superheated attic.
Spray foam takes trained crews, the right equipment and good ventilation during the job. Everyone needs to stay out of the house while we spray and for the re-entry time the foam manufacturer sets. We'll give you the exact time for the product we use.
Approximate R-value per inch for open cell and closed cell spray foam.
Your options
Both stop air leaks. They differ in density, R-value per inch and how they handle moisture.
How the job goes
We check the roof deck, ventilation, attic access and any gas appliances, then quote foam type and thickness.
The insulation on your attic floor comes out before any foam goes in.
We cover floors, vents and anything near the work area, then spray to the thickness in your quote.
We show you the finished work, clean up and confirm when it's safe to come back in.
Yes, for part of the job. Everyone, including pets, should be out while we spray and for the re-entry time the foam manufacturer sets. We'll tell you the exact time.
Once the roof deck is foamed, the attic becomes part of your home's building envelope, and its air is part of the air you breathe. Old floor insulation holds dust and debris, and it can absorb VOCs given off while the foam is installed. Removing it first keeps the air in your home clean. We require it on every spray foam attic.
No. Foam on the roof deck makes the attic part of the house, so the attic vents are sealed off. It's no longer vented to the outside.
Most homes use open cell under the roof deck, in exterior walls and on gables. Closed cell is used where you need more R-value per inch or a vapor retarder. We'll recommend one after the inspection.
